Hall of Fame broadcaster Brent Musburger is getting in on Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale’s Super Bowl promotion, buying a high-end mattress with a refund guarantee if the New England Patriots win.
Musburger, 86, purchased a king-size Tempur-Pedic mattress from McIngvale’s Gallery Furniture for $11,996. The mattress was scheduled for delivery Wednesday to Musburger’s Las Vegas home. Under the promotion, customers who spend $4,000 or more receive a refund if the Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60 on Sunday.
“No charge if Patriots win Super Bowl,” Musburger said. “I’m already worried about Drake Maye’s injured shoulder. But if Seahawks win, I’ve still got a great mattress.”
McIngvale, known as Mattress Mack, placed a $2 million bet at Caesars Sportsbook to win $4 million on the AFC champion Patriots. It is the largest reported Super Bowl wager so far, part of Mack’s strategy to hedge against potential losses from his furniture promotions.
Musburger said he became a fan of Mack after the furniture store owner opened his stores to hurricane victims in Houston. “He was an acquaintance of my buddy and bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro. We set up an interview with him on VSiN, and I loved his big bets tied to furniture promotions,” Musburger said. He added that after 40 years with the same mattress, he decided to treat his wife, Arlene, to a top-of-the-line model.
Mack, 74, placed the bet before the conference championship games, hoping New England would advance. “I was pulling for New England. I got a shot with the Patriots,” he said. “I like the coach, and I like the quarterback.”
The Patriots are 4½-point underdogs to the Seahawks with +191 money-line odds. Musburger noted that Mack told him his grandson resembles Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, so he couldn’t bet against his grandson. “It’s actually the safest bet I’ve ever made because I’ve still got one of the best mattresses in the world even if the Pats lose,” Musburger said.
