The Las Vegas Raiders appear to have found their next head coach, and it’s Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. While the deal cannot be finalized until after the Super Bowl, sources indicate the 38-year-old is the choice to lead a franchise that finished 3-14 last season.
Kubiak’s offensive expertise is exactly what the Raiders need after a season of inconsistency and poor production. The team struggled to move the chains, with Geno Smith failing to provide stability at quarterback and the offensive line underperforming.
If Kubiak takes over, he will likely oversee the development of a rookie quarterback. The Raiders hold the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, with Indiana star Fernando Mendoza expected to be the selection. Keeping Mendoza upright will be a top priority.
General manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady are credited with the hire, which has been praised as a potential home run. Kubiak’s work in Seattle this season has demonstrated he is ready for the challenge.
Still, the Raiders remain a team far from contention. The rebuild will take time, but this move represents a strong first step in the right direction.
