Schenn’s Late Goal Extends Golden Knights’ Skid to Four Games

Brayden Schenn’s goal with 1:33 left in regulation handed the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday at Enterprise Center, extending their losing streak to four games.

The Blues captain scored after a rebound landed on his right skate and deflected past goaltender Carter Hart. Video review confirmed the puck was not kicked in. The play developed from a two-on-one rush created when defenseman Noah Hanifin turned the puck over while attempting to dump it into the offensive zone, leaving all three forwards caught up ice.

The Golden Knights (17-11-11) have now lost seven of their last eight games, with five of those losses in regulation. “I think we’re just finding ways to lose games right now,” defenseman Kaedan Korczak said.

Keegan Kolesar opened the scoring at 10:12 of the first period with his first goal of the season, but Alexey Toropchenko answered 27 seconds later after following his own rebound. The Blues struck twice in 58 seconds during the second period on goals from Justin Faulk and Oskar Sundqvist at 6:37. Mark Stone cut the lead to 3-2 with his third straight game with a goal at 9:10 of the second, and Pavel Dorofeyev tied it 3-3 at 8:21 of the third.

Jack Eichel returned after missing seven games with an illness and lower-body injury, playing 18:53 and recording three shots with a minus-2 rating. “I don’t think Jack was very good today,” coach Bruce Cassidy said. “His timing was off, for sure.”

Defenseman Brayden McNabb is week to week with an upper-body injury, ending his streak of 298 consecutive regular-season games. The Knights are also without Shea Theodore (upper body), who remains week to week. Jaycob Megna was recalled from Henderson and played 10:43 in his first NHL game this season.

The Knights allowed 31 goals in their last eight games. “We gave them three of them, so it is a source of concern for me,” Cassidy said. “I hope it is for those guys.”
