Tiger Woods charged with DUI after Florida rollover crash

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. — Tiger Woods was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of driving under the influence after his Land Rover rolled over in a crash on a two-lane road near his home, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff John Budensiek said Woods struck a pressure cleaner truck while trying to pass it, causing his vehicle to flip onto its driver’s side. Neither Woods nor the other driver was injured, and Woods crawled out of the passenger side.

Investigators at the scene observed signs of impairment. Woods provided a breath sample that tested negative for alcohol but refused a urine test. He was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, both misdemeanors.

This marks at least the third car crash for Woods, 50, and his second DUI arrest. In 2017, police found him asleep at the wheel in Jupiter, Florida, and he later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. In February 2021, his SUV ran off a road in Los Angeles at high speed, causing severe leg injuries that nearly led to amputation.

Woods has played 11 tournaments since the 2021 crash, with his best finish 16 shots back. He has been recovering from a seventh back surgery in September and had not decided whether to play in the Masters next month. He also faces a deadline to decide on becoming U.S. Ryder Cup captain for 2027.
