Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LXIII in 2029, the NFL confirmed, giving the city nearly three years to prepare after its successful late-notice debut in 2024. Tourism officials expect the event to generate roughly $1 billion in economic impact, building on the momentum of the 2024 game that drew 330,000 visitors.
The 2024 Super Bowl, which saw the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime, was awarded to Las Vegas after New Orleans bowed out due to Mardi Gras scheduling conflicts. This time, the city will have 29 months to coordinate logistics, safety, and hospitality.
“We’re proud the NFL has selected Las Vegas to host Super Bowl LXIII,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “Our first Super Bowl showcased the unique energy and scale only this destination can offer, bringing together world-class sports, entertainment and hospitality in one place. Las Vegas was built for moments like this, and we look forward to delivering another exceptional experience for fans in 2029.”
The 2024 game had a transformative effect on tourism. February 2024 saw a 9.5% increase in monthly visitors year-over-year, the largest monthly gain of the year. Average daily room rates on the Strip hit $269.37, up 40.6% from February 2023. Investment analyst Emily Thompson of Seeking Alpha calculated that $606 million in net visitor spending led to nearly $1 billion in total economic impact.
Clark County Commission Chair Michael Naft emphasized the broader benefits. “Bringing the Super Bowl back to Southern Nevada is a powerful testament to the success of the 2024 game,” he said. “Super Bowl LVIII was more than a world-class sporting event. It created meaningful opportunities for independent business owners, generated significant economic impact for our local economy and supported nonprofit partners through the NFL’s Legacy Grant program. Clark County is proud to build on that momentum, and I am eager to ensure that the benefits of hosting the big game are felt by all Nevadans.”
Las Vegas will form a new Super Bowl Host Committee to oversee preparations, including subcommittees for safety, transportation, community affairs, and supplier diversity. Affiliated events such as NFL Honors, Super Bowl Experience, and Opening Night will return, along with community initiatives like NFL Source.
The NFL’s relationship with Las Vegas has evolved significantly. Once averse to gambling, the league now has official betting partners in Caesars Entertainment, DraftKings, and FanDuel. Las Vegas had long been a hub for Super Bowl watch parties and sports betting before hosting the actual game.
UNLV assistant professor Amanda Belarmino noted that the 2024 Super Bowl’s economic impact may have exceeded that of Formula One, with wealth spreading beyond the Strip. “I think that the overall impact of hosting the Super Bowl may have had a greater economic impact, even though we may not be able to directly attribute that impact to the event,” she said. “While the Super Bowl is always a profitable time of year for us, this year we were able to stretch that economic impact into a week instead of a weekend. I also think that we may find that the economic impact of the Super Bowl went into other parts of the city rather than just the Strip.”
Airports are also preparing. Harry Reid International, Henderson Executive, and North Las Vegas Airport will need to accommodate hundreds of general aviation aircraft, a challenge highlighted by the 2024 Super Bowl and Formula One events.
