Centennial’s Jake Turner throws no-hitter, homers twice in dominant win

Wednesday’s high school sports slate featured standout pitching, explosive offense and a freshman phenom in boys volleyball.

Baseball

Centennial junior Jake Turner struck out 11 batters while tossing a no-hitter and also hit two home runs to lead the Bulldogs past Las Vegas 7-0.

Coronado’s Hudson Jones went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs as the Cougars routed Liberty 13-1 in five innings. Sierra Vista senior Michael Alvarado was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in an 8-1 win over Bonanza. Boulder City senior Ethan Wagstaff went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in a 5-3 victory against Moapa Valley.

Softball

Shadow Ridge sophomore Rosely Hensley-Mokiao went 3-for-3 with a home run and six RBIs as the Mustangs blew past Bishop Gorman 17-1 in five innings. Palo Verde senior Taylor Johns had two home runs and four RBIs in an 11-0 five-inning win over Basic. Arbor View senior Audrey Melton recorded three doubles and five RBIs in a 12-2 five-inning victory against Liberty. Centennial junior Sydnee Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in a 12-1 five-inning win over Green Valley. Pahrump Valley freshman Jaycie Hayes struck out 15 while allowing four hits in a 4-0 victory over Virgin Valley.

Boys volleyball

Cadence freshman Oakland Liugalua posted 19 kills, 13 digs and four aces in a 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 sweep of Amplus Academy. Palo Verde senior Jagger Mendenhall had 28 assists and three kills in a 25-11, 15-25, 25-12, 25-16 win over Sky Pointe. Cheyenne senior Hunter Perkins logged 18 kills in a 25-12, 25-11, 25-22 victory against Losee. Centennial senior Parker Teal racked up 18 digs, 11 kills, two blocks and an ace in a 25-23, 25-17, 25-23 win over Foothill.
