A’s snap four-game skid behind Langeliers’ fourth homer, Civale’s strong start

The Athletics finally broke into the win column Tuesday, defeating the Atlanta Braves 5-2 at Truist Field to avoid a season-opening five-game losing streak. Shea Langeliers continued his torrid start, launching his fourth home run of the year in the fifth inning.

Aaron Civale, making his first start of the season, delivered five innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out three. The A’s bullpen backed him with four scoreless innings, and Mark Leiter Jr. earned the save in his Athletics debut, allowing two hits in the ninth but stranding both runners.

Jacob Wilson and Andy Ibañez each drove in two runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Max Muncy added a double with an exit velocity of 111 mph, drew a walk, and scored twice. The A’s offense, which had managed only 11 runs during their four-game skid, broke out with five runs on eight hits.

Before the game, Braves catcher Drake Baldwin received the 2025 National League Rookie of the Year award and was honored with a bobblehead giveaway. He then hit a solo home run in the first inning, his third of the year. Ronald Acuña Jr. plated Dominic Smith with a sacrifice fly in the fifth but struck out with two on in the seventh and ninth innings; Acuña is batting .167 this season.

Braves starter José Suarez (0-1) lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs. Joel Payamps surrendered Langeliers’ solo shot in the fifth.
