Villarreal dominates as Basic blanks Faith Lutheran 6-0

Behind a dominant performance from Johnny Villarreal, Basic shut out Faith Lutheran 6-0 on Friday night in a rematch of last season’s Southern Region title game. Villarreal, a St. Mary’s (California) commit, threw four hitless innings and struck out 11 batters.

Lincoln Evans earned the win, pitching three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. At the plate, Lyndon Lee drove in two runs, while Dallon Cegavske and Matthew Kelley each added an RBI. Basic (1-0) took control early and never let up.

Faith Lutheran (0-1) struggled to generate offense against Basic’s pitching staff. The Crusaders managed no hits through the first four innings and were held scoreless for the entire game.

Basic will travel to Bishop Gorman on Thursday at 7 p.m., while Faith Lutheran visits Green Valley on Thursday at 4 p.m.
