Three Southern Nevada high school students who worked as golf caddies have been awarded the Chick Evans Scholarship, a full four-year housing and tuition package valued at approximately $125,000. Doris Claveria Giron from Cristo Rey, along with Odalis Ayala and Kelary Escobar Salguero from Equipo Academy, received the honor through the Western Golf Association’s Caddie Academy.

The scholarship covers both tuition and housing at any of the Evans Scholars Program’s 27 partner universities, which include Michigan, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and Washington. The three students will enroll at to-be-determined institutions this spring.

Ayala credited the program with building her confidence. “The WGA Caddie Academy challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and take responsibility for my growth,” she said. “Because of that experience, I feel prepared not only for college but for the career and life I want to build.”

WGA chairman Andrew Langan praised the recipients. “These students exemplify what the WGA Caddie Academy is designed to accomplish, by preparing motivated young people for success both on the golf course and in the classroom,” he said. “Their achievements reflect the power of opportunity, mentorship and hard work.”
