The Las Vegas Raiders are closing in on a deal with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to become their next head coach, a source confirmed to the Review-Journal. Kubiak, 38, cannot officially sign or be announced until after Super Bowl 60, where he will serve as the Seahawks’ play-caller against the New England Patriots on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California.
Raiders officials met with Kubiak in Seattle on Saturday, Jan. 31, for what was effectively a second interview. He also is expected to meet with the Arizona Cardinals, the only other team with a head-coaching vacancy. By NFL rules, Kubiak can agree to terms in principle before the Super Bowl, but no contract can be executed until after the game.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald praised Kubiak’s demeanor: “The thing I appreciate most about Klint is he’s a team player. It’s always what’s best for the team all the time and he takes a lot of pride in it being a team effort.”
The Raiders fired Pete Carroll after a 3-14 season and hold the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, giving them a chance to select a franchise quarterback — likely Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza. General manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady are leading the search.
Kubiak, who spent the past two seasons as Seattle’s offensive coordinator, previously worked as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings (2021) and as a quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. He is the son of former NFL head coach Gary Kubiak.
The Raiders have interviewed at least 14 candidates, including second interviews with defensive coordinators Ejiro Evero and Jesse Minter. Minter was hired by the Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 22. Other candidates, such as Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and former Giants head coach Brian Daboll, have taken other jobs or are no longer in the mix. Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb withdrew his name from consideration, signaling he believes Kubiak is the front-runner.
Kubiak’s hiring would mark the Raiders’ sixth head coach since moving to Las Vegas in 2020.
