The Las Vegas Raiders have requested an interview with Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, just hours after the Chargers were eliminated from the playoffs by the New England Patriots, a source confirmed to the Review-Journal. The move comes as the team also pursues former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who parted ways with Baltimore last week.
Minter, 42, began his NFL coaching career in 2017 under John Harbaugh as a defensive assistant with the Ravens, eventually becoming defensive backs coach in 2020. After a stint at Vanderbilt, he served as defensive coordinator at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh, winning a national championship. He followed Jim Harbaugh to the Chargers last season.
The Raiders are among multiple teams interested in Minter, alongside the Ravens, Browns, and Titans. John Harbaugh, 63, is believed to have been contacted by every team with a head coaching vacancy, including the Raiders. However, reports that Harbaugh may want to choose his own general manager could be a sticking point, as Las Vegas general manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady—both former Michigan teammates—run football operations.
The connection between Minter and the Raiders runs deeper: Spytek and Brady played at Michigan, where Minter coordinated the defense that won a national title. Minter also has a show-cause penalty from the NCAA imposed in April 2025, which restricts him from college coaching for one year but does not affect NFL employment.
