The Las Vegas Raiders have officially named Klint Kubiak their next head coach, announcing the hire Monday after the Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 Super Bowl defeat to the New England Patriots. Kubiak, the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. According to ESPN, his contract is for five years.
The 38-year-old Kubiak becomes a first-time head coach with 12 years of NFL experience. The Raiders had agreed to terms with him on Feb. 1, but NFL rules prevented the signing until the Seahawks’ season ended. Kubiak confirmed his move during a live interview at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, saying he was “fired up” to join the Raiders.
Kubiak replaces Pete Carroll, who was fired after a 3-14 season. The Raiders are now on their fifth head coach in five years and haven’t made the playoffs since 2021. They also owe more than $30 million of Carroll’s remaining contract.
Kubiak’s hiring gives the Raiders a young offensive-minded coach with Super Bowl experience—this was his third Super Bowl appearance, his first as a play-caller. He inherits a roster with promising young talent like running back Ashton Jeanty and tight end Brock Bowers, plus the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and about $90 million in cap space. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the likely top pick, has praised Kubiak’s development of Sam Darnold in Seattle.
The Raiders also interviewed Kubiak virtually on Jan. 9 and twice with the Arizona Cardinals, who hired Mike LaFleur after Kubiak chose Las Vegas. Attention now turns to building Kubiak’s coaching staff, with potential offensive and defensive coordinator candidates already being discussed.
