The Las Vegas Raiders are casting a wider net in their hunt for a new head coach, requesting permission to speak with five additional candidates. The list includes coordinators from playoff-bound teams, signaling a thorough evaluation process.
According to a source, the Raiders have sought interviews with Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, Rams passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase, and Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
Evero, 45, orchestrated a dramatic defensive turnaround in Carolina. After the Panthers allowed an NFL-record 534 points in 2024, they surrendered just 380 this season. He has previous coaching stops with the Rams, Broncos, 49ers, and Buccaneers.
LaFleur, 38, has been the Rams’ offensive coordinator since 2023. Though head coach Sean McVay calls plays, LaFleur helped the Rams lead the NFL in scoring at 30.5 points per game. He previously served as offensive coordinator for the New York Jets in 2021 and 2022.
Shula, 39, is the grandson of Hall of Fame coach Don Shula and took over as Rams defensive coordinator in 2024. He has been with the organization since McVay’s first season in 2017, and the two were teammates at Miami (Ohio) University.
Hafley, 46, became the Packers’ defensive coordinator in 2024 after serving as head coach at Boston College from 2020 to 2023.
Scheelhaase, 35, spent six seasons at Iowa State before joining the Rams in 2024. He was the Cyclones’ offensive coordinator in 2023.
The Raiders began their search to replace Pete Carroll last week, interviewing Broncos quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Davis Webb, former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, and Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak on Friday.
