New Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak is wasting no time shaping his staff, interviewing defensive line coach Rob Leonard for the defensive coordinator position and hiring former Chargers head coach Mike McCoy as assistant head coach, according to reports.
Leonard, who served as run game coordinator and defensive line coach last season, is entering his fourth year with the team. He brings 16 years of coaching experience, including 13 in the NFL. Under his guidance, the Raiders’ defensive line recorded 20 passes defensed in 2024, the second-most among NFL defensive line units, and the team totaled 38 sacks. Star edge rusher Maxx Crosby has frequently praised Leonard.
McCoy, 53, spent four seasons as head coach of the San Diego Chargers and served as Tennessee’s interim head coach at the end of last season, going 2-9. He has a track record of developing quarterbacks, a skill that could prove valuable if the Raiders select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick. McCoy has also been an offensive coordinator for the Broncos and Cardinals and a quarterbacks coach for the Jaguars.
On the offensive side, the Raiders are reportedly interviewing Seahawks wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson for the offensive coordinator position. Jackson previously coached wide receivers for the Titans, Panthers, and Steelers, and played for the Browns and Jets.
