Kubiak meets with Raiders in Seattle as Super Bowl prep begins

Klint Kubiak, the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator, met with Las Vegas Raiders officials in Seattle on Saturday, moving closer to potentially becoming the franchise’s next head coach. The meeting occurred before the Seahawks depart for Santa Clara, California, where they will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 on Feb. 8.

Kubiak is also scheduled to meet with the Arizona Cardinals, the only other team with a head coach vacancy. By NFL rules, no further in-person interviews can occur once the Seahawks arrive in the Bay Area on Sunday, but teams can agree in principle with Kubiak before the Super Bowl. No contract can be signed or announced until after the game.

According to the prediction platform Kalshi, Kubiak has an 84% chance of becoming the Raiders’ next head coach, compared to just a 10% chance of landing with the Cardinals. The betting market suggests Kubiak prefers Las Vegas, though the appeal of returning to Seattle — a team with significant cap space and a strong core — could factor into his decision.

Seahawks players have openly expressed their desire for Kubiak to stay. Offensive lineman Gray Zabel joked, “Klint is the worst coach ever. Don’t hire him,” before praising his leadership. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp said, “Guys love him. You want to play for guys like Klint. Humility is one thing that I think is one of his special traits.” Kupp added, “He’ll be great wherever he is. Hopefully it’s here, but you want everyone to be able to ascend and go do whatever they want to do.”

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald also praised Kubiak: “The thing I appreciate most about Klint is he’s a team player. It’s always what’s best for the team all the time and he takes a lot of pride in it being a team effort.”

If hired, Kubiak would bring those traits to the Raiders’ facility in Henderson. No official announcement can come until at least Feb. 9, the day after the Super Bowl.
