Kraken rally past Golden Knights for 3-2 win, Vegas drops fourth straight

The Vegas Golden Knights’ season-high seven-game winning streak is fading fast. On Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, they lost their fourth consecutive game, falling 3-2 to the Seattle Kraken.

Seattle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Eeli Tolvanen and Jared McCann. McCann’s tally came on the power play after the Golden Knights were called for too many men. It was the fifth time in seven games Vegas allowed the first goal.

The Golden Knights (25-15-14) answered in the second period. Ivan Barbashev and Mitch Marner scored to tie the game at 2-2. Jack Eichel assisted on both goals.

But early in the third period, a puck deflected off Vegas defenseman Kaedan Korczak and landed on the stick of Seattle’s Kaapo Kakko, who scored the game-winner at 3:18.

“We need to be a hell of a lot more competitive in front of our own net,” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. “It cost us two goals tonight.”

Goaltender Akira Schmid made 20 saves for Vegas. Joey Daccord stopped 27 shots for Seattle (26-19-9), which moved within three points of the Pacific Division-leading Golden Knights. Former Vegas center Chandler Stephenson had two assists for the Kraken.

“The expectation is really high over here,” forward Tomas Hertl said. “Things aren’t going our way, but it’s on us.”

The Golden Knights have now lost six of their last seven games. They travel to face the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, with Adin Hill expected to start. Vegas is 0-2 against Anaheim this season, both overtime losses.
