Bishop Gorman’s DaMari Hall launched a grand slam in the seventh inning to break open a tight game, and the Gaels held off a late Palo Verde rally for a 9-6 victory Friday night at The Meadows School.
Hall’s blast was part of a four-run seventh that gave Gorman (6-1, 3-0 5A Mountain League) a 9-3 lead. The Panthers (8-3, 0-2) answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
The Gaels had taken a 5-3 lead with three runs in the sixth. Palo Verde had tied the game 3-3 in the fifth after Gorman scored once in the first and twice in the third.
Hall also scored in the first inning, sliding safely home before catcher Cash Coulter could apply the tag.
Gorman defeated Palo Verde 8-6 on Thursday. The Gaels next host Temecula Valley (California) at noon Monday. Palo Verde plays at Arbor View at noon Saturday.
