Athletics open Cactus League play with focus on 2026 season

The Athletics kicked off Cactus League action last week at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Arizona, as the club prepares for the 2026 campaign. Manager Mark Kotsay oversaw fielding drills and batting practice Monday, with players shaking off offseason rust before the regular season.

Catchers Bryan Lavastida and Shane McGuire shared a light moment during Monday’s workout, while second baseman Jeff McNeil worked on his throws. Third baseman Max Muncy was thrown out at home plate trying to score against the San Francisco Giants in a game at Scottsdale Stadium on Monday.

The A’s will play spring training games through March 23 at Hohokam and other Phoenix-area venues. The team is scheduled to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028.
