Bishop Gorman edges Legacy 4-3 in 5A region baseball opener

Chase Wilk’s two-run home run proved decisive as Bishop Gorman defeated Legacy 4-3 in a Class 5A Southern Region winners bracket game Thursday. The Gaels, Mountain League champions, improved to 26-5 and will host Arbor View at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Legacy (14-15), the Sky League’s No. 3 seed, now faces Durango in an elimination game Friday at 4 p.m. on their home field.

Justin Rodrigues went 2-for-3 with an RBI double for Gorman. Hudson Ciulla, a Gonzaga commit, earned the win with a complete game, striking out 13 batters. Easton Lake led Legacy with a 3-for-3 performance, including three RBIs and a triple.

Centennial no-hits Palo Verde

Jake Turner threw six no-hit innings with eight strikeouts as Sky League champion Centennial defeated Palo Verde 3-1. Turner, a TCU commit, also contributed an RBI at the plate. The Bulldogs (24-9) host Faith Lutheran on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a winners bracket game. Palo Verde (24-8) plays Shadow Ridge in an elimination game Friday at 5 p.m. at Centennial.

Arbor View tops Desert Oasis

Devin Martin had two hits, three RBIs and a stolen base to lead Arbor View past Desert Oasis 7-2. Freshman Tucker Christman earned the win, pitching six innings with seven strikeouts while allowing two runs. The Aggies (28-6) travel to Bishop Gorman on Saturday. Teagan Russin added two hits and an RBI for Arbor View. Desert Oasis (22-10-1) hosts Liberty in an elimination game Friday at 4 p.m.
