Sophia DeMonbrun of Clark High School has been voted the Las Vegas Review-Journal Girls Prep Athlete of the Week for April 13-18, earning 16,705 of the 26,923 total votes cast (62%).
The junior softball player went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a triple and seven RBIs in Tuesday’s win over Eldorado, then belted three more homers in a victory over Mojave on Thursday. She leads Clark with a .710 batting average, 10 home runs and 32 RBIs, and also serves as the team’s top pitcher with a 4.91 ERA.
Spring Valley’s Isabella Lenahan finished second with 9,011 votes (33.5%). She went 7-for-8 with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and 13 RBIs in two games last week and leads her team with a .696 batting average, five homers and 47 RBIs.
Liberty’s Portlynn Stacey received 1,082 votes (4%) after hitting two home runs and driving in four runs in a 9-8 comeback win over Doral Academy. Stacey, committed to play volleyball at Yakima Valley College, is batting .455 with a team-leading 18 RBIs.
Coronado senior Bailey Goldberg, an Oregon commit, got 84 votes. She had two home runs, a double and five RBIs in a 16-6 win over Green Valley and is batting .481 with four homers, eight doubles and 18 RBIs.
Centennial swimmer Maddy Dawidian rounded out the ballot with 41 votes. The senior won the 50-yard freestyle (27.00 seconds) and the 200 free (2:07.57) on Saturday, helping the Bulldogs finish fourth overall in their 5A meet at Pavilion Pool.
