Wednesday’s high school sports action featured dramatic comebacks and lopsided victories across baseball, softball and boys volleyball.
In baseball, Bishop Gorman scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Legacy 11-10. Justin Rodrigues went 5-for-5 with an RBI and two runs for the Gaels. Silverado also staged a late rally, scoring three runs in the seventh to beat Shadow Ridge 9-8. Giovanni Guariglia had two doubles and three RBIs for the Skyhawks.
Green Valley defeated Coronado 6-3 behind Isaiah Alba’s home run and double. Matthew Smoot hit two home runs and drove in three for the Cougars in the loss. Palo Verde beat Durango 7-5, with Karsen Smaka going 3-for-4 with a triple, double and RBI.
In softball, Cadence outslugged Chaparral 30-18, as Gabriella Colarco went 5-for-6 with two home runs, a triple and 10 RBIs. Shadow Ridge rolled past Bishop Gorman 17-6, with Rosely Hensley-Mokiao going 5-for-5 with a double and seven RBIs. Arbor View defeated Liberty 14-3 in five innings, as freshman Payton Williams homered, tripled, doubled and drove in six runs.
Legacy beat Clark 11-3 behind Madison Castellon’s 3-for-3 day with a triple, RBI and five stolen bases. Mojave topped Rancho 24-12, with Emiko Kalani going 5-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs while also earning the win in the circle. Cimarron-Memorial blanked Canyon Springs 23-0 in three innings; Taylor Ramos had a home run, triple, double and three RBIs.
In boys volleyball, Liberty swept Sloan Canyon 25-17, 25-16, 25-11, led by Zelworth Chavis’s 36 assists, three aces, three kills and a block. Bonanza defeated Durango 25-17, 18-25, 25-13, 25-14, with Cyrus McShane recording 17 digs and nine kills. Las Vegas beat Mater East 25-16, 25-23, 25-18, as Alex Limalima had 20 digs and three aces. Legacy swept Western 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 behind Pater Brozda’s eight kills and three blocks. Desert Oasis swept Clark 25-8, 25-19, 25-15, with Easton Smith logging six kills and four aces.
