The Silverado baseball team cruised to a 16-0 victory over SLAM! Nevada on Tuesday, but the story of the game was senior Giovanni Guariglia, who hit his 13th and 14th home runs of the season to break the school’s single-season record. The Skyhawks needed just three innings to finish the shutout.
Guariglia’s power display highlighted a busy day of high school action across Southern Nevada. Other standout performances included Palo Verde’s Noah Knudson, who went 6-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs in a wild 21-20 win over Sierra Vista, rallying in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In baseball, Basic defeated Foothill 19-6 in five innings behind Matthew Kelley’s 3-for-4 day with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Clark’s Ryland Gregorich homered twice and drove in four runs in a 17-1 win over Doral Academy. Durango sophomore Zaylen Alboro went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in a 14-4 win over Bonanza. Western’s Edgar Garcia hit two home runs and had five RBIs in a 15-0 victory over Sunrise Mountain.
On the boys volleyball court, Basic senior Porter Hughes recorded 19 kills, eight digs, four blocks and an ace, but the Wolves fell to Centennial in five sets (21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 15-7). Green Valley junior Alava Roberts posted 33 assists, 17 digs and four blocks in a four-set win over Cheyenne. Foothill’s Derean Shearer had 16 assists and 14 digs in a four-set loss to Shadow Ridge. Arbor View’s Kenyon Wickliffe tallied six kills and three blocks in a sweep of Sierra Vista.
In softball, Silverado beat Mater East 18-3, and Virgin Valley shut out The Meadows 16-0.
