Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch, a former Bishop Gorman High School star, faces two misdemeanor charges after an early Sunday morning incident in Athens, Georgia, just days before the NFL draft. The 22-year-old was booked for obstruction of a law enforcement officer and obstructing a public sidewalk.
According to an Athens-Clarke County police spokesperson, officers were clearing a crowd outside a nightclub around closing time. Branch was directly warned to disperse but refused to comply, leading to his arrest. A police report obtained by NFL Network states that Branch “smirked” and only moved slightly when ordered to clear the sidewalk, continuing to block public passage.
Branch was the top-rated wide receiver recruit in the nation coming out of Bishop Gorman in 2023. He played two seasons at USC before transferring to Georgia for the 2025 season, where he recorded 81 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games.
At the NFL scouting combine in March, Branch ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash and earned a spot on the NFL.com all-combine team. He met with the Las Vegas Raiders at the combine and had a top-30 visit scheduled with the team, according to an April interview on NFL Network. Branch is the great nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Cliff Branch.
