Wildcats Edge Cougars 3-2 in Pitching Duel

Las Vegas High School’s baseball team edged Coronado 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Las Vegas High School, behind a strong pitching performance and timely defense.

Junior pitcher Jesus Hernandez took the mound for the Wildcats, scattering hits and keeping the Cougars off balance throughout the game. The Wildcats (9-13-1) scored three runs early and made them stand up behind solid glove work, including a key play by infielder Aadyn Jaime.

Coronado (13-14) threatened in the later innings but could not push across the equalizer. The Cougars’ pitchers—Parker Janssen, Crosby McGreal, and others—combined to limit Las Vegas to three runs, but the Wildcats’ defense turned critical outs, including a foul-out by first baseman Adrian D’Anna and a throw to first from third baseman Mickey Martinez.

Las Vegas honored its seniors after the game with a ceremonial running of the bases, including senior Justin Romero, who was seen clapping hands with parents.

Both teams return to action Saturday: Las Vegas hosts Rancho at 10 a.m., while Coronado hosts Chaparral at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
