Faith Lutheran edges Palo Verde in 5A baseball thriller

Macen Collura went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs to lead Faith Lutheran to a 9-8 victory over Palo Verde on Wednesday in a Class 5A baseball game at The Meadows School.

The Crusaders held off a late rally by the Panthers to secure the win. Collura, a senior, was the offensive catalyst for Faith Lutheran.

In other baseball action, several pitchers delivered dominant performances. Durango freshman Eron Galvan struck out eight while throwing a four-hitter in an 8-0 win over Sierra Vista. Silverado senior Hogan Hawkins pitched a six-inning four-hitter as the Skyhawks beat Tech 14-0. Coronado senior Hudson Inouye struck out 10 while holding Foothill to two hits in a 4-3 comeback victory. Shadow Ridge senior Bryce Judd pitched a five-inning one-hitter to lead the Mustangs past Las Vegas 12-0.

On the softball diamond, Lake Mead sophomore Emma Dolciame went 4-for-6 with two doubles and six RBIs in a 17-10 win over Beaver Dam. Virgin Valley senior Davie Slack had two home runs, a triple and six RBIs to power the Bulldogs to a three-inning 25-0 victory over Democracy Prep.

In boys volleyball, Palo Verde senior Deegan Bisbee-Wolinsky had 10 kills in a sweep of Foothill (27-17, 25-18, 25-17). The Meadows junior Gabriel Kung finished with 31 assists and 10 digs in a sweep of Cristo Rey. Moapa Valley senior Spencer Stolworthy logged 36 assists, 10 digs and four blocks in a four-set loss to Coral Academy.
