Bishop Gorman junior Justin Rodrigues had a career day at the plate Thursday, going 5-for-5 with three home runs, a double and eight RBIs to lead the Gaels to a 16-1 rout of Durango.
Rodrigues was one of several standout performers across Southern Nevada high school baseball, softball and boys volleyball action.
Cheyenne senior Raymundo Chevalier went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and four RBIs as the Desert Shields defeated Valley 15-0 in three innings. Foothill junior Jacob Lester homered, tripled and drove in two runs in a 9-0 win over Liberty. Canyon Springs junior Isaiah Rogers had a home run, a triple and six RBIs in a 19-7 victory over Chaparral. Coronado sophomore Dawson Schmitt collected two doubles and two RBIs in a 14-0 win over Clark.
In boys volleyball, Liberty sophomore Jordan Valdez recorded 11 kills and seven service aces to lead the Patriots past Durango 25-22, 25-16, 25-17. Cheyenne junior Blake Thompson had 13 kills in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-10 loss to Coronado.
Other baseball scores included Basic 2, Green Valley 1; Bishop Alemany (Calif.) 8, Desert Oasis 7; Boulder City 6, Virgin Valley 0; Centennial 8, Shadow Ridge 7; Cimarron-Memorial 18, Mojave 9; Desert Pines 15, Sunrise Mountain 6; Faith Lutheran 10, Sierra Vista 2; Legacy 6, Las Vegas 2; Mater East 5, Rancho 3; SLAM! Nevada 11, Cadence 0; Spring Valley 7, Doral Academy 6; Tech 14, Del Sol 4; and The Meadows 11, Pahrump Valley 5.
In softball, Boulder City edged Virgin Valley 6-5, and Foothill routed Chaparral 25-0. In boys volleyball, Mojave beat Legacy 3-0, Palo Verde swept Sierra Vista 3-0, and The Meadows edged Doral Academy 3-2.
