Las Vegas Prepares for $500M-Plus Windfall From 2027 CFP Championship

Las Vegas Prepares for $500M-Plus Windfall From 2027 CFP Championship

The 2027 College Football Playoff national championship is expected to pump between $500 million and $700 million into the Las Vegas economy, officials said Tuesday during a news conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The game, set for Jan. 25, 2027, at Allegiant Stadium, adds to a growing list of mega-events hosted by the city, including the 2024 Super Bowl (which returns in 2029), WrestleMania, the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix, and the 2028 NCAA men’s basketball Final Four. While the CFP’s projected impact is less than the Super Bowl’s $1 billion-plus and the Grand Prix’s roughly $1 billion annual pull, it still ranks among the most significant economic drivers for the region.

“We are fortunate to have one or two every year that are in that range,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “There just aren’t that many events like that. So, the economic importance of this to Las Vegas shouldn’t be lost just in the sports and the excitement and the community impact. That economic impact matters, too.”

With 293 days until kickoff as of Tuesday, CFP officials have been visiting Southern Nevada monthly to coordinate transportation, security, logistics, and venues. “The CFP folks are out every month for three days, and they choose a couple of topics to work through,” Hill said. “We worked on security at Allegiant Stadium this morning.”

Weekend Events

The free CFP Fan Central will open Jan. 23 in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, featuring games, giveaways, clinics, pep rallies, autograph signings, and exhibits. A live music event, Playoff Playlist Live!, will have its date and location announced later; past performers include Lil Wayne, the Chainsmokers, Sting, Lenny Kravitz, and John Summit. On Jan. 24, the Trophy Trot 5K and 10K races and the Taste of the Championship dining experience will take place. Race course and ticket details for the tasting event will be released in the fall.

“Still working on some of those and that’s why we come every month, we’re coming here to work on finding the best venues that are going to be most accessible to people and still allow us to put on the quality of event that this community deserves,” said CFP executive director Rich Clark.

Community Investment

The CFP Foundation is partnering with the Clark County School District to leave a lasting legacy. On Jan. 23, the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit will bring together educators and administrators for an inspirational event featuring guest speakers; past speakers include Condoleezza Rice, Carl Lewis, and Miguel Cardona. Training for more than 1,000 teachers in specialized reading intervention methods began Monday, aiming to assist over 280,000 CCSD students with learning difficulties and dyslexia.

“We had teacher training for the program. It’s already started,” said CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert. “We’re training over 1,000 teachers in the Clark County School District to use the program. They are very excited because now they have additional tools in their tool belt.”

The foundation will also update 15 school libraries and community spaces into innovation media centers through its Extra Yard Makeover Project. In total, the CFP Foundation and the 2027 Las Vegas Host Committee plan to invest nearly $4 million over two years in programs supporting students across all 374 Clark County schools.

“The CFP didn’t just come here and use Vegas to put the game on, we came here to give something to this community and that’s important to us,” Clark said.
