Steelers take Liberty alum Germie Bernard in Round 2 of NFL draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Liberty High School standout Germie Bernard with the 47th overall pick in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft on Friday.

Bernard, a 6-foot-1, 206-pound wide receiver, played his final two college seasons at Alabama after stints at Washington and Michigan State. As a senior with the Crimson Tide, he led the team with 862 receiving yards and hauled in seven touchdown catches.

Before college, Bernard starred at Liberty High School in Henderson, where he graduated in 2022. He was named Gatorade Nevada Football Player of the Year after recording 956 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior, helping the Patriots reach the 5A Southern Region title game.

Bernard also played a key role on Liberty’s 2019 team that stunned Bishop Gorman in the 4A Desert Region championship, snapping the Gaels’ streak of 10 consecutive state titles.
