Sierra Vista freshman Gia Christmas has been voted the Las Vegas Review-Journal Girls Prep Athlete of the Week for performances during the week of March 30-April 3. Christmas, an outfielder and first baseman, received 4,150 of the 6,381 total votes cast, good for 65 percent.
Ava Englestead of Cadence finished second with 1,479 votes (23.2 percent), and Taylor Ramos of Cimarron-Memorial was third with 752 votes (11.8 percent).
Christmas went 3-for-3 with a triple and seven RBIs in a win over Durango on Tuesday, then hit two home runs in a victory over Western on Thursday. She leads Sierra Vista in on-base percentage (.750), RBIs (16) and stolen bases (14).
Englestead, a sophomore utility player, hit two home runs, a triple and drove in seven runs in a 16-11 win over GV Christian. She leads Cadence in slugging percentage (1.308) and is second in RBIs with 14.
Ramos, a senior pitcher/infielder, had two home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs in a win over Las Vegas, and added a 2-for-4 day with a triple and two RBIs against Clark. She leads the Spartans with a .812 batting average and a 1.938 slugging percentage.
