The Las Vegas Raiders have their lead running back in Ashton Jeanty, but new coach Klint Kubiak wants a second option to share the load. After likely using the No. 1 pick on quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the Raiders are expected to address the running back position on Day 3 of the draft.

Kubiak has emphasized a committee approach similar to his time in Seattle, where Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet both saw significant carries. The Raiders’ current depth behind Jeanty includes Dylan Laube, Chris Collier, and fullback Connor Heyward, none of whom project as a reliable complementary back.

Among mid-round targets, Penn State’s Kaytron Allen stands out as an ideal short-yardage and physical complement to Jeanty. Washington’s Jonah Coleman offers red-zone prowess and ball security. Nebraska’s Emmett Johnson fits Kubiak’s scheme with his vision and patience. Indiana’s Kaelon Black, a teammate of Mendoza, provides comfort in pass protection and special teams value.

Later-round possibilities include UTSA’s Robert Henry Jr., who brings speed and elusiveness, and former Bishop Gorman star Jaydn Ott of Oklahoma, who showed promise in a system similar to Kubiak’s. Oregon’s Noah Whittington is a strong runner but a liability in the passing game.

The Raiders hold nine picks after their first-round selection and are expected to use one on a running back to bolster their backfield.
