The Las Vegas Raiders continued to invest heavily in the Arizona secondary, selecting safety Dalton Johnson with the 150th overall pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft on Saturday. The pick was acquired from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for defensive end Tyree Wilson and a seventh-round selection.
Johnson joins Arizona cornerback Treydan Stukes, whom the Raiders picked in the second round on Friday. General manager John Spytek has now taken two Wildcat defensive backs in the same draft.
Scouting report
Johnson is known for his aggressive play near the line of scrimmage, excelling in run support and breaking up passes on short routes. He made significant strides in pass coverage during his final season at Arizona, though questions remain about his deep coverage ability. His skill set should earn him a role on defense, and he is expected to contribute immediately on special teams.
“Johnson took a huge leap in pass coverage in his final season at Arizona after he was mostly known for his ability to come up in run support before that,” the team noted.
The Raiders grade the pick as a B, reflecting Johnson’s potential as a versatile defensive back who can make an impact near the line of scrimmage.
