SEATTLE — Josh Naylor lined a first-pitch cutter from Joel Kuhnel into left field with two outs in the ninth inning, scoring Cal Raleigh from second base to give the Seattle Mariners a 5-4 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday. The win snapped Seattle’s three-game losing streak and prevented a sweep at T-Mobile Park.
Raleigh, who homered for the third straight game, led off the ninth with a single and advanced to second on a groundout. After an intentional walk to Julio Rodríguez, Naylor delivered the game-ending hit. He finished 3-for-5, raising his average to .194.
Raleigh’s solo home run in the third inning was his fifth of the season. He also went 3-for-5, his first three-hit game this year, and is batting .198.
The A’s tied the game 4-4 in the top of the ninth when Nick Kurtz hit a 438-foot homer to center off Mariners closer Andrés Muñoz (3-2), his fourth of the year. Muñoz earned the win despite blowing the save.
Seattle took a 4-3 lead in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Rodríguez, who extended his on-base streak to 19 games with two singles.
Mariners starter Logan Gilbert allowed three runs over four innings. In the first, a comebacker off the bat of Carlos Cortes lodged in Gilbert’s jersey, and Cortes was credited with a single. Athletics starter Aaron Civale gave up three runs in 5⅓ innings.
Tyler Soderstrom, Jeff McNeil and Jacob Wilson each drove in a run for Oakland, which had its seven-game road winning streak snapped.
The A’s, who plan to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028, host the Texas Rangers on Friday with Luis Severino (0-2, 6.20 ERA) on the mound.
