Las Vegas edges Coronado 3-2 behind Hernandez’s complete game

Junior pitcher Jesus Hernandez scattered five hits over seven innings Friday as Las Vegas topped Coronado 3-2. The Wildcats improved to 8-4 with the narrow home victory.

Coronado’s Parker Janssen also turned in a strong outing but took the loss. The Cougars fell to 7-5.

In other action, Green Valley held off Bonanza 9-6 as junior Isaiah Alba went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Sierra Vista’s Kyler Meleski contributed at the plate and on the mound, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while earning the win in an 8-4 victory over Bishop Gorman.

Sunrise Mountain sophomore Derek Taisakan went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs and also picked up the pitching win in a 19-8 five-inning rout of Chaparral. Lake Mead senior Danny Yeates went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI as the Eagles beat Mater East 6-4.

Softball

Lake Mead junior Rihanna Drum went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and six RBIs to power the Eagles past Laughlin 23-14 in the first game of a doubleheader. Lake Mead also won the nightcap 20-9.

Pahrump Valley freshman Jaycie Hayes was 5-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and earned the pitching win in a 7-5 victory over Tech.
