Sophia DeMonbrun put together one of the most dominant individual performances of the spring on Thursday. The Clark junior struck out 19 batters and hit three home runs with five RBIs to power the Chargers to a 12-8 victory over Mojave.
DeMonbrun also earned the pitching victory, holding Mojave’s offense in check despite allowing eight runs. At the plate, she was a force, accounting for nearly half of Clark’s runs.
In other softball action, Liberty senior Portlynn Stacey smashed two home runs and drove in four runs, keying a seventh-inning rally that lifted the Patriots to a 9-8 win over Doral Academy. SLAM! Nevada freshman Harlie Newman also delivered a walk-off win, homering and doubling with four RBIs as the Bulls came back in the bottom of the seventh to beat Foothill 9-8.
Cadence senior Gabriella Colarco went 4-for-5 with a home run and seven RBIs in a 28-17 slugfest victory over Mater East. Coronado senior Bailey Goldberg had two homers, a double and five RBIs in a 16-6, five-inning win over Green Valley. Legacy freshman Amelia McClerkin went 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple and five RBIs in a 14-0, five-inning shutout of Las Vegas. Palo Verde junior Alexis Kearns went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs as the Panthers rallied past Shadow Ridge 5-3.
On the baseball diamond, Eldorado sophomore Jesus Duarte was a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run, a double and six RBIs in a 21-9, six-inning win over Desert Pines. Sierra Vista senior Michael Credico went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in a 13-3, five-inning victory over Moapa Valley. SLAM! Nevada senior Mark McAllister went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in a 19-1 rout of Sunrise Mountain. Boulder City junior Gavin Robinson had two doubles, a triple and an RBI in a 10-8 win over Coronado, while Coronado junior Matthew Smoot went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in the loss.
In boys volleyball, Arbor View junior Gunnar Robinson tallied 15 kills, five digs and a block as the Aggies outlasted Coronado 29-27, 26-28, 25-18, 15-25, 15-13. Liberty senior Zelworth Chavis dished 30 assists with three kills and two aces in a sweep of Tech. Las Vegas senior Isaac Suarez recorded 25 assists and 10 digs in a sweep of Valley. Desert Pines senior Jayden Wade-Rosas had 18 kills, eight digs, three aces and two blocks in a loss to Losee. Desert Oasis senior Jacob Wienke posted 17 kills and three blocks in a four-set win over Bonanza.
