Centennial outlasts Basic in five-set 5A boys volleyball showdown

Tuesday night in Henderson, the top-ranked Centennial boys volleyball team needed all five sets to subdue No. 4 Basic, winning 21-15, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 15-7 at Basic Academy. The victory kept the Bulldogs perfect in 5A Southern League play at 6-0, improving their overall record to 27-5.

Basic, which fell to 19-8 overall and 3-2 in league, pushed the visitors to the brink after dropping the first two sets. The Wolves rallied to take the third set 25-19 and led early in the fourth before Centennial regained control. In the decisive fifth set, the Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead and never trailed.

Centennial coach Kristie Heaton praised her team’s resilience. “We knew Basic would come out fighting on their home court,” she said. “The guys stayed composed when it mattered most.”

Lincoln Larson was a key contributor for the Bulldogs, while Porter Hughes led the Wolves’ attack. Both teams now turn their attention to Thursday and Friday matchups: Centennial visits Foothill at 6 p.m., and Basic travels to Coronado at 6 p.m.
