Boulder City’s Gavin Robinson wins Nevada Preps boys athlete of the week

Gavin Robinson of Boulder City High has been voted the Las Vegas Review-Journal Boys Prep Athlete of the Week for April 13-18, earning 195 of 480 total votes (40.6%). The junior baseball standout edged out Desert Pines volleyball senior Jayden Wade-Rosas, who received 158 votes (32.9%).

Robinson, a two-way player for the Eagles, delivered a standout performance in a 10-8 win over Coronado on April 17, recording two doubles, a triple and an RBI. On the mound, he boasts a 1.59 ERA as the team’s top pitcher.

Other nominees included Desert Oasis volleyball senior Jacob Wienke (99 votes, 20.6%), Coronado golf senior Anderson Lee (22 votes, 4.6%) and Eldorado baseball sophomore Jesus Duarte (6 votes, 1.3%).

Wienke posted 17 kills and three blocks in a four-set win over Bonanza on April 17, while Lee shot a 2-under 70 to tie for first in a Desert League match at Anthem. Duarte went 5-for-5 with a home run, a double and six RBIs in a 21-9 victory over Desert Pines.

Voting closed at noon Thursday, with results announced Friday.
