The Athletics will induct four new members into their team Hall of Fame on Sept. 12 before a home game against the Seattle Mariners. The class includes former center fielder Dave Henderson, second baseman Mark Ellis, pitcher John “Blue Moon” Odom, and longtime executive Sandy Alderson.
Henderson, who spent six of his 14 MLB seasons in Oakland, was part of the A’s teams that won three straight American League pennants from 1988 to 1990. He hit 104 home runs and drove in 377 runs with the club. His tenure included the 1989 World Series sweep of the San Francisco Giants, which was interrupted by the Loma Prieta earthquake.
Ellis came to the A’s in a three-team trade that also brought Johnny Damon from Kansas City. He played for three division-winning Oakland teams in the 2000s.
Odom pitched for the Athletics from 1964 to 1975, first in Kansas City and then in Oakland. He recorded 15 or more wins in three different seasons and earned the win in the clinching Game 5 of the 1974 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, securing the A’s third consecutive championship.
Alderson served as the team’s general manager from 1983 to 1997, overseeing four AL West titles and the 1988-90 World Series runs. He returned to the organization in 2019 for a two-year stint assisting general manager Billy Beane.
The Athletics are scheduled to relocate to Las Vegas in 2028, and the team’s Hall of Fame is expected to be housed in the new ballpark on the Strip.
