A’ja Wilson Signs WNBA Supermax Deal Worth Nearly $5 Million to Remain with Aces

A’ja Wilson is staying in Las Vegas. The four-time WNBA MVP agreed to a supermax contract with the Aces on Wednesday, a deal that makes her the highest-paid player in the league.

The contract is worth nearly $5 million over three years, according to a source. Its structure is unprecedented: Wilson will earn 20 percent of the salary cap each season. The cap is currently $7 million but is expected to rise with league revenue.

Wilson, who led the Aces to their third championship in four years in 2025, became an unrestricted free agent along with most of the league. She has long signaled her intent to stay with the team that drafted her No. 1 overall in 2018 out of South Carolina.

“I know exactly where I am. I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas. I’m looking to win another one,” Wilson said at USA Basketball minicamp on April 3. “I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas. I’m looking to get better as a leader, as a player. Everything else just kind of falls in line.”

In the Aces’ announcement, Wilson simply said “YKWTFGO” — an acronym for “You Know What The (expletive) Goin’ On.”

Wilson has consistently taken team-friendly deals, including a two-year extension in 2023 worth $200,000 per year, to help the Aces build their roster. Last season, despite becoming the first player in WNBA or NBA history to win the scoring title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in the same season, she was not among the league’s top 25 highest-paid players.

Aces president and general manager Nikki Fargas praised Wilson on Tuesday. “A’ja Wilson is one of one,” Fargas said. “Everybody gets to see what she does on the court. We (the Aces) every day, get to see who she is as the human being. We’re blessed and fortunate to have A’ja Wilson coming back to the Aces, and we appreciate the crown that she must wear. It’s heavy, but she does it with such humility. She does it with such grace. It’s an honor to be able to come into this building every day and be able to work alongside an A’ja Wilson.”

Before finalizing Wilson’s deal, the Aces extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Kierstan Bell and NaLyssa Smith. They also signed guard Jackie Young to a one-year deal at the new regular max of $1.19 million, and guards Jewell Loyd and Chelsea Gray to multi-year, multi-million-dollar contracts. Cheyenne Parker-Tyus re-signed on a one-year deal.
