Arbor View’s offense erupted for 16 hits, including three home runs, as the Aggies defeated Shadow Ridge 11-3 on Friday for their seventh consecutive victory.
The game remained close until the sixth inning, when Arbor View broke a 3-2 lead with a six-run outburst. Freshman Peyton Williams capped the rally with an inside-the-park home run, racing around the bases after her hit rolled to the fence in deep center field.
“It hit off the fence and kept rolling, and I was like, ‘I’m not stopping her. She’s going,’” said coach Lea Ann Jarvis. “They’re going to have to throw the ball from 220 (feet) on a dime. So I was like, ‘I’m sending her.’”
Williams finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Maliah Harrell went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a conventional solo homer well over the left-field fence. Lily Easton added three hits, including a double.
“Down the order everybody’s doing their job,” Jarvis said. “If one player doesn’t do it, the person behind her picks her up. That’s how teams win. That’s the level of changing culture. That’s where we’ve been trying to focus on.”
Freshman Aliyah Loafea-Carter added an inside-the-park homer in the top of the seventh, lining a ball over the head of center fielder Devaeh Crawford, who had crept in against the No. 9 hitter.
“That wasn’t as close, I felt like, because they had to really chase it down,” Jarvis said. “But I think Aliyah got tired when she hit third. I was like, ‘You better get on your horse, girl.’”
Pitcher Ava Henderson earned the win, going the distance while scattering eight hits, striking out 11 and walking none.
Shadow Ridge (13-3, 10-2 5A Southern League) saw its seven-game win streak snapped. Rosely Hensley-Mokiao was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Mustangs.
Arbor View (17-6, 10-1) now holds sole possession of first place in the league standings.
