Stone’s Overtime Heroics Extend Golden Knights’ Winning Streak to Five

Mark Stone needed just 25 seconds of overtime to deliver the Vegas Golden Knights their fifth consecutive victory, a 3-2 decision over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena.

Stone buried the game-winner into an empty net after Jack Eichel forced a turnover and set up a two-on-one rush. Eichel, falling behind the cage, found his captain alone in front.

The goal was Stone’s second overtime winner of the season and extended his point streak to 14 games. He has scored in eight of the last nine contests and tallied three points for the third time in four games.

Mitch Marner broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal at 12:07 of the third period. Braeden Bowman had opened the scoring earlier, netting his first goal in 18 games at 3:56 of the second period after Eichel forced a turnover. Eichel finished with three assists.

But the Knights couldn’t hold the lead in regulation. Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke tied the game at 2 with 1:27 left, with goaltender Darcy Kuemper pulled for an extra attacker.

Both teams played their 18th overtime game of the season. The Kings (19-16-11) had won the season opener 6-5 in a shootout at T-Mobile Arena.

Goaltender Akira Schmid stopped 21 shots for his 14th win of the season.

The Knights’ forecheck, which coach Bruce Cassidy credited for the winning streak, was particularly effective in the second period. They recorded five shots in the first 1:50, matching their first-period total.

Bowman, 22, has had a memorable week. On Monday, he made his first hole-in-one during a round at Southern Highlands golf course.

The Knights return home to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday at T-Mobile Arena. It will be Marner’s first game against his former team since joining Vegas in a sign-and-trade on July 1.
