The Las Vegas Raiders ended their season with a 14-12 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, but the win only delayed difficult decisions ahead. Kicker Daniel Carlson hit a career-long 60-yard field goal as time expired to secure the victory, yet the organization’s focus has already shifted to a coaching change and roster overhaul.
Coaching change expected
Pete Carroll, who was never the right fit for a team in rebuild mode, is almost certainly out after one season. The 74-year-old coach and general manager John Spytek were not on the same timeline, and the Raiders need a leader who can build around a young quarterback. Carroll can enjoy retirement while Las Vegas searches for a coach to guide a lengthy rebuild.
Carlson’s big day
Daniel Carlson made all four field-goal attempts, including the game-winner, in the final game of his contract. The veteran kicker had a tremendous performance, setting himself up for a big payday from the Raiders or another team in free agency. The organization had questions about his leg strength and even brought in a practice squad kicker, but Carlson answered emphatically.
Rookies shine
Defensive end Tyree Wilson saved his best for last, recording two sacks, two forced fumbles, and a safety. “You never want to end the season with a nasty taste in your mouth,” Wilson said. “It was time. I hadn’t had a sack in a minute. It was time to make some plays.” Defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway also had two sacks, and JJ Pegues recovered a fumble. On offense, guards Caleb Rogers and Charles Grant saw extensive action and continued their development.
Jeanty’s rookie season
Running back Ashton Jeanty fell short of 1,000 rushing yards but set the franchise rookie record for scrimmage yards, surpassing Josh Jacobs. He showed improvement in pass protection and receiving, though he often faced a struggling offensive line. Jeanty led all rookies in rushing yards this season, and his talent remains evident despite unmet expectations.
