Mountain West Player of the Year Colandrea picks Nebraska

Anthony Colandrea, the reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, has committed to Nebraska, the school announced Tuesday during his official visit.

The former UNLV quarterback entered the transfer portal after leading the Rebels to a 10-4 record. This past season, he completed 66% of his passes for 3,459 yards and 23 touchdowns, while adding 649 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground.

Colandrea previously played at Virginia before transferring to UNLV. His decision came after Nebraska lost out on former Notre Dame quarterback Kenny Minchey, who signed with Kentucky instead. That opened the door for Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule to quickly pursue Colandrea.

Nebraska finished the season with a 44-22 loss to Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl. Freshman QB TJ Lateef started that game, throwing for 182 yards and accounting for two touchdowns. Former starter Dylan Raiola entered the transfer portal after a season-ending injury against USC.

Colandrea’s commitment comes after he told reporters following UNLV’s first Frisco Bowl practice, “I’m not transferring. I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying here. I just want to play in the (bowl game) and finish out the year with the guys.”
