PWHL Las Vegas continued its expansion roster build Monday, signing defenseman Erin Ambrose to a two-year deal and forward Hayley Scamurra to a three-year contract. Both players were part of the Montreal Victoire squad that won the Walter Cup last season.
Ambrose, 32, was the sixth overall pick in the inaugural 2023 PWHL draft. She has 37 points in 73 career games with Montreal and owns a plus-24 rating, the best among league defenders all-time. The Keswick, Ontario native also has two Olympic medals: gold in 2022 and silver in 2026 with Team Canada.
Scamurra, 31, appeared in all 30 regular-season games for Montreal and added four points in the playoffs. She has 14 goals and 29 points in 79 career games after being selected in the fifth round by Ottawa in 2023. The Buffalo native is one of only 14 players to have won Olympic gold, IIHF world championship gold, and a Walter Cup. She also made history as the first player to win a gold medal and a Walter Cup in the same season.
This marks Scamurra’s fourth team in four years. She was traded to Toronto in December 2024 and signed with Montreal in June 2025.
Ambrose and Scamurra join defensemen Mae Batherson and Kendall Cooper, who signed two-year contracts Saturday. That gives Las Vegas four players signed through the six-phase expansion distribution process. Each expansion team can acquire up to five players via signings and a selection process.
The fifth player will be Hilary Knight, who will be re-routed to expansion Detroit as part of a sign-and-trade. Las Vegas will receive a first-round pick from Detroit for the PWHL Draft on June 17.
