The Pittsburgh Pirates pounded out 16 hits and scored 10 or more runs for the seventh time this season, matching their 2025 total, in a 12-4 rout of the Athletics on Wednesday night in West Sacramento.
Ryan O’Hearn led the charge with a career-high six RBIs, collecting a home run, a double and a single. He broke the game open with a two-run double in the first inning that made it 3-0, then added a two-run homer to left field in the fourth to push the lead to 7-0.
Marcell Ozuna also homered for Pittsburgh, a 448-foot solo shot to center field in the seventh inning. The Pirates added five more runs in that frame, including a bases-loaded walk to Spencer Horwitz, a sacrifice fly from Brandon Lowe, and a two-run single by O’Hearn.
Braxton Ashcraft (6-3) earned the win, striking out seven over six innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.
For the Athletics, Henry Bolte homered in the seventh and Zack Gelof went deep in the ninth. Gelof extended the longest active hitting streak in the majors to 21 games.
Aaron Civale (5-3) took the loss after giving up six runs and nine hits in three-plus innings.
Jacob Wilson’s two-run single in the sixth trimmed Pittsburgh’s lead to 7-2, but the Pirates answered emphatically in the seventh.
The Pirates begin a three-game series Friday in Colorado, with RHP Bubba Chandler (2-7, 4.76 ERA) facing Rockies LHP Kyle Freeland (1-7, 7.98). The A’s host the Los Angeles Angels for a four-game series starting Thursday, with LHP Gage Jump (2-1, 3.09) on the mound.
