Floyd Mayweather, the undefeated boxing legend, has been charged with felony counts after allegedly writing a bad check for $200,000 to purchase a luxury watch at a Las Vegas jewelry store, according to court records obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Clark County district attorney’s office filed charges on April 27 against Floyd Joy Mayweather, including felony drawing or passing a check with intent to defraud and theft valued at $100,000 or greater. The charges stem from a December 31, 2024 transaction at Gold and Beyond, located at 376 W. Sahara Ave., where Mayweather reportedly bought an Audemars Piguet watch.
“The check was deposited and returned unpaid as the defendant well knew,” authorities said in the court filing. A certified letter was sent to the address on the check notifying Mayweather of the returned item and demanding full payment, but the amount was not paid, a prosecutor stated.
Las Vegas Justice Court records show a summons in lieu of arrest was issued on April 30, with an initial appearance held Monday. No attorney is listed for Mayweather in the case. A representative from Gold and Beyond declined to comment when reached Tuesday.
This legal trouble adds to Mayweather’s recent financial woes. In April, the Review-Journal reported that the IRS filed a federal tax lien against Mayweather for more than $7 million. The lien, recorded with the Clark County recorder’s office against Floyd J. Mayweather, shows an unpaid balance of $7,279,664.45 covering two prior tax periods. The document lists Mayweather’s residence as an office suite in Boca Raton, Florida.
Mayweather, who retired with a perfect 50-0 professional record and world titles in five weight classes, has earned over $1.1 billion in his career. He purchased a $10 million mansion in Las Vegas in 2018.
