Lawrence Butler is starting to look like the hitter the Athletics hoped they had.

After a brutal stretch to open June, the 25-year-old outfielder delivered in back-to-back games, helping the A’s to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday at Las Vegas Ballpark. The win was Oakland’s second consecutive after Wednesday’s 4-3 triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Butler entered Friday hitting .175 with four homers and 17 RBIs. Over a six-game span from June 2-9, he managed just one hit — a two-hit game against the Houston Astros on June 7. But in his last two contests, he has three hits and three RBIs.

“It felt good to be able to put the ball in play and see it hit the ground,” Butler said Friday. “I also got a clutch hit against a lefty to bring in another run. I’m just hoping things start turning for me.”

Butler came off the bench in the fifth inning to pinch hit for Colby Thomas and took over in right field in the top of the sixth. In the seventh, he doubled off the fence and scored the go-ahead run. He added an RBI single in the eighth.

Manager Mark Kotsay pointed to Butler’s first at-bat — a walk against Rockies pitcher Seth Halvorsen — as a potential turning point. Butler laid off three sliders in the upper 90s.

“A game like that can get you going,” Kotsay said. “The at-bat to draw a walk was really the at-bat I think that opened him up. You could see how pumped he was about laying off three good sliders down below the zone.”

Butler also made an over-the-shoulder catch in the top of the eighth inning on a fly ball to deep right field with the A’s holding a 5-4 lead.

“It feels good to be able to help the team,” Butler said. “That’s all I really care about. That’s all any of us in here really care about is helping the team.”

On Wednesday, Butler hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to key a three-run rally that gave Oakland a win over the first-place Brewers.

“A great day for (Butler),” Kotsay said. “It’s good to see him get results when he’s put in so much work.”
