Monday’s high school sports slate featured a triple-overtime battle, a triple-double, and several blowouts across basketball and flag football.
Desert Oasis outlasted Silverado 70-68 in three overtimes, thanks to 23 points from senior Gian Haddock. The Diamondbacks improved to a strong start in league play.
Coral Academy’s Bella Robinson recorded a triple-double with 29 points, 14 rebounds, 13 steals and six assists in a 59-20 rout of Eldorado. The senior’s stat line was the standout individual performance of the night.
In other girls basketball action, Liberty’s Samantha Chesnut scored 11 points as the Patriots crushed Las Vegas 68-14. Centennial’s Nation Williams posted 16 points in a 76-24 win over Faith Lutheran. Rancho’s Greta Piepkorn collected 12 points and five steals in a 42-34 victory against Green Valley. Del Sol’s Sabrina Stewart scored 27 points, leading a comeback from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Canyon Springs 62-58. Mojave edged Shadow Ridge 64-63.
On the boys side, Arbor View’s Rylan Hearns scored 28 points in a 71-55 win over Foothill. Cimarron-Memorial’s David Quesada had 28 points and eight rebounds in an 84-49 victory over Del Sol. Canyon Springs’ Mekhi Carter contributed 17 points, five assists and two steals in a 63-49 win over Tech. The Meadows’ Uzo Nwapa scored 18 points to help beat Shadow Ridge 57-54. Laughlin defeated Liberty Baptist 72-52, Losee topped Mater East 63-40, Needles routed Awaken Christian 86-33, and Western dominated Cadence 62-7.
In flag football, Liberty’s freshman quarterback Charli Taylor completed 23 of 48 passes for 384 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-6 win over Green Valley. Legacy’s Amaya Mackey had three interceptions in a 19-6 victory over Moapa Valley. Sloan Canyon’s Manahere Peters caught 10 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-24 loss to Bishop Gorman.
